The Leader’s Mirror™
AI can help you work faster.
What if it could help you notice your patterns?
A way for leaders to use AI to look at what is happening, what may be influencing their reaction—and what they might not be seeing.
What is The Leader’s Mirror?
The Leader’s Mirror™ is a way for leaders to use AI—not only to ask what they should do, but to explore why they may be seeing the situation the way they do.
Most of us are rather good at noticing other people’s patterns. Our own reactions usually feel perfectly reasonable.
We are inside them.
We may think we are responding to what is happening, when we are also responding to what the situation means to us. Our experiences, assumptions, needs and familiar ways of protecting ourselves can all influence what we see—and therefore how we lead.
The Leader’s Mirror™ creates a pause between what happens and what we do next.
By sharing a situation with AI and asking it to reflect rather than advise, a leader can explore questions such as:
What assumptions might I be making?
What may be driving my reaction?
Is there a pattern in how I respond to situations like this?
What might the other person be seeing that I am not?
What could I be too close to notice?
AI cannot know you better than you know yourself. It cannot decide whether its interpretation is true, understand everything left unsaid or make a conscious choice on your behalf.
What it can do is work with what you share, reflect possible patterns, ask questions and offer perspectives you may not have considered. Some will resonate. Some will not. And occasionally, one question may make you stop and think: Well, that was slightly uncomfortable.
That pause matters.
The Leader’s Mirror™ becomes more personal when combined with the Five Energies and Exploring Boxes™. The Five Energies help you explore what may be driving your response. Exploring Boxes helps you notice the interpretations and assumptions shaping what you see.
The aim is not to remove human judgement from leadership. It is to bring more awareness into it.
AI does not create self-awareness. Reflection does.
AI creates more opportunities for that reflection.
Why do we need a mirror?
Why do leaders need a mirror?
I have often wondered why it's so easy to see what other people are doing—and so difficult to notice when we are doing exactly the same thing ourselves.
Perhaps it is because our own reactions rarely feel like patterns from the inside.
They feel reasonable.
If I interrupt someone, it may be because the meeting needs to move forward. If someone interrupts me, I may experience them as impatient or disrespectful.
Same behaviour. Different box.
This matters in leadership because the way we interpret a situation influences what we do next. We may think we are reacting to what happened when we are also reacting to the meaning we have given it.
Experience does not necessarily protect us from this. Sometimes it gives us an even more convincing reason to believe our interpretation is the right one.
This is where a mirror can help.
Not because the mirror knows the truth. It doesn’t.
But it can invite us to look again.
What am I assuming here? Why did this affect me so strongly? Have I been in this situation before? What might this look like from the other person’s box?
The point is not to turn leadership into endless self-analysis.
It is to notice when one of our familiar patterns may have taken the chair—and decide whether we still want it running the meeting.
AI as a reflector of human abilities.
How does BeBBY turn AI into The Leader’s Mirror™?
AI doesn’t naturally show you a mirror.
Most tools are built to respond fast, give answers, solve things, move on. Ask a question and you’ll usually get a confident reply straight away.
BeBBY works differently.
BeBBY uses The BeBBY Method™ to shape how AI shows up in the conversation. It brings in the Five Energies, Exploring Boxes™, and a reflective way of thinking. And when your Five Energies or Beyond Boxes Index™ profile is part of the picture, the reflection starts to feel more like you.
Instead of jumping to “here’s what you should do”, BeBBY slows things down and asks:
what might actually be driving this reaction?
what assumption is sitting underneath it?
which “box” are you looking at this from right now?
does this pattern feel familiar from somewhere else?
and what are you too close to see clearly?
Yes, BeBBY can still suggest ideas and directions. But it doesn’t start there. It doesn’t assume the answer is the main thing.
The reflection comes first.
Could you get a normal AI to do some of this? Sure. If you prompt it well, you might even get something surprisingly good.
But BeBBY isn’t a clever prompt.
It’s a way of working with AI that’s designed to stay reflective over time — using a shared language and structure that becomes more natural the more you use it, and more personal the deeper you go.
When AI is shaped through BeBBY like this, it becomes The Leader’s Mirror™.
AI is the engine.
BeBBY is the way you steer it.
And the meaning? That part is always yours.
“Thinking with BeBBY has helped me explore new perspectives, bring structure to thoughts that tend to go in every direction, and express my ideas far more clearly than I could have done alone.”
“BeBBY has often stopped me in my tracks, asked me questions I would not necessarily have asked myself, and helped me rethink things or see a situation from a completely different perspective.
Perhaps the biggest lesson has been that I do not always need to have the answer straight away. Sometimes I need to give myself space to explore what is going on, what I am telling myself, and which ‘box’ I am reacting from.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about using AI as a leadership tool
-
In my work as a leadership coach and mentor for nearly 20 years, and in my own personal journey. I feel that becoming more self-aware is your life’s journey.
The Five Energies help you understand what may be driving you. Your need to feel safe, free, valued or understood—or your instinct to notice what is missing—can influence how you communicate, make decisions and respond under pressure.
The Five Energies are not personality types. You have all five, and they do not show up in exactly the same way every day.
Knowing your energy map gives you a language for exploring questions such as:
Why did that comment affect me so strongly?
What did I need in that moment?
Was I responding to what happened—or to what I thought it meant?
Have I reacted like this before?
This is where BeBBY, my AI tool, can become useful.
Because BeBBY knows your Five Energies and, when available, your Beyond Boxes Index™ profile, it can ask more personal questions and help you explore patterns in the situations you share.
It may suggest that your reaction was connected to safety, recognition or freedom. You may agree. You may think it has completely missed the point.
Both can make you think.
A map does not create self-awareness. Neither does AI.
Reflection does.
The map gives you somewhere to look. BeBBY helps you keep looking. And you decide what you see.

You cannot usually find a blind spot by thinking harder about what you already know.
You need another angle.
A leadership blind spot is often not a hidden weakness. It may be a strength you trust so much that you no longer notice when it has gone too far.
Responsibility is useful—until you take responsibility for everything. Confidence helps you lead—until you stop listening. Caring about people is valuable—until avoiding discomfort prevents you from saying what needs to be said.
In Exploring Boxes™, this is how a Good Box can move into the Bad or the Ugly. The quality has not disappeared. It has started running more of the show than you realise.
Feedback from other people can help. So can noticing repeated outcomes:
Do people become quiet when you enter the discussion?
Do you keep having the same conflict with different people?
Are you always the one who ends up fixing everything?
Does your intention match the impact you are having?
The Beyond Boxes Index™ helps identify possible blind spots in your familiar patterns. BeBBY can then use that profile, together with your Five Energies, to reflect on real situations as they happen.
It cannot announce:
“Here is the truth about you.”What it can do is ask a question that makes you look again.
And sometimes that is exactly where a blind spot begins to come into view.
-
Why do I keep repeating the same patterns even when I know better?
Because knowing about a pattern and noticing it while it is running are two very different things.
A familiar pattern rarely turns up wearing a name badge.
It feels like a perfectly reasonable response to this person, this meeting or this particular piece of nonsense happening today.
You may know that you take on too much, avoid conflict or become defensive when your competence is questioned. Yet in the moment, the reaction may still feel necessary.
Most patterns are doing—or once did—something useful for us. They may help us feel safe, free, valued or understood. They may protect our status, keep us connected to other people or give us the comforting feeling that we are in control.
The question is therefore not only:
How do I stop doing this?
It may be more useful to ask:
What is this pattern still doing for me?
What feels at risk if I respond differently?
Which box am I looking from?
Do I still need this pattern to do the same job?
Because BeBBY knows your Five Energies and familiar boxes, it can help you explore these questions across the real situations you share.
It cannot break the pattern for you.
But reflection can help you notice it sooner.
And the sooner you notice what is running you, the more choice you have about whether it should continue.

AI can help you prepare for a difficult conversation by doing more than writing a polished script for you to memorise.
Because the difficult part is rarely finding the words.
It is what happens inside us before we say them.
Perhaps you keep softening the message because you want to be liked. Perhaps you have already placed the other person in the difficult box and are preparing for a battle they do not yet know they are in. Or perhaps you are so determined to be understood that you have forgotten to become curious about them.
When AI is shaped to work reflectively, it can help you explore:
what actually needs to be said;
what may be driving your own hesitation or reaction;
what the other person may need in order to hear you;
where your patterns might collide;
and what you can do if the conversation becomes uncomfortable.
The BeBBY Dread-Free Conversation Coach uses Exploring Boxes™ and the Five Energies to create a personalised Conversation Prep Sheet. It gives you a possible opening, the key messages that need to land and a plan for when things get difficult.
Not a script.
Preparation.
AI does not know the other person better than you do. But it may help you walk into the room with more than just your side of the conversation.
And that can change the conversation before it even begins.
-
Can AI help me stop overthinking a decision?
Yes—but used badly, AI can also give you another seventeen options to overthink.
Overthinking often looks like a need for more information. Sometimes it is. But sometimes we already have enough information and are still searching because we want the decision to feel completely safe.
Unfortunately, decisions rarely arrive with a written guarantee that we will never regret them.
When AI as BeBBY is used as a reflective partner, it can help you separate:
what you actually know;
what you are assuming;
what you are afraid might happen;
and what you may be trying to control before you move forward.
BeBBY can take this further because it knows your Five Energies and familiar boxes. It may help you explore whether you are looking for safety, afraid of losing freedom, worried about disappointing someone or still searching for the one missing piece that will make the decision feel perfect.
The useful question may not be:
What is the right decision?
It may be:
What am I waiting to feel before I allow myself to decide?
BeBBY can help you organise your thinking, examine the options and notice what may be keeping you stuck.
It cannot remove uncertainty or make the decision for you.
But it may help you see whether you are still thinking—or hiding inside the thinking.
And yes, there is a difference.
-
Is it safe to use AI as BeBBY for personal reflection?
Yes—if you use it thoughtfully and remember that a reflective conversation with AI is still a digital conversation.
You do not need to tell AI everything for it to help you think.
It rarely needs someone’s full name, workplace, medical history and national identification number to help you explore why a conversation bothered you. Change names, remove identifying details and describe only the part of the situation that matters.
A few sensible rules:
Use a reputable AI platform with clear privacy and data policies.
Choose a paid individual, team or business plan with appropriate privacy controls rather than typing personal information into a free, open-access AI tool.
Check whether your conversations may be stored or used to improve the service—and switch that setting off when possible.
Never share passwords, financial information, confidential company material or identifiable information about employees, clients or other people.
When in doubt, anonymise first. “A colleague” is often enough.
Paying for AI does not automatically make every conversation private. The provider, subscription and settings still matter.
And privacy is only one part of using AI responsibly.
AI can misunderstand you, reflect your own assumptions back to you or produce a very confident answer that happens to be wrong. BeBBY may help you notice patterns and explore different perspectives, but it does not know the truth about you.
Nor is it a therapist, a diagnosis or an emergency service. Some conversations belong with a trusted person or qualified professional—not a chatbot.
Use AI as a space to think.
Not as a vault for every detail of your life.
And not as the final authority on what any of it means.

Ordinary AI is usually designed to answer your question.
BeBBY is designed to help you explore the person asking it.
Ask ordinary AI what to do about a difficult colleague, and it may give you five sensible steps, a conversation script and—if you are particularly unlucky—a twelve-point action plan.
BeBBY works differently.
The BeBBY Method™ shapes how AI responds. It combines the Five Energies, Exploring Boxes™, and reflective practice so the conversation doesn't begin with advice. It begins by exploring what may be driving you, how you interpret the situation, and what you might be too close to notice.
When BeBBY knows your Five Energies or Beyond Boxes Index™ profile, the reflection becomes more personal. It can help you explore questions such as:
What feels at risk for me here?
Which familiar pattern may be showing up?
What box have I placed this person—or myself—in?
Am I responding to what happened or to what I think it means?
What might become possible if I looked again?
BeBBY can still help you generate ideas, prepare conversations and make decisions. But it doesn't assume another answer is always what you need.
Sometimes you need a better question.
Ordinary AI gives you access to intelligence.
BeBBY gives that intelligence a reflective role, a shared language and a way of working that becomes more personal over time.
AI is the technology.
BeBBY is how we shape it into The Leader’s Mirror™.
And the reflection only becomes meaningful when you decide what to do with it.
